India Post has officially published the India Post GDS 5th Merit List 2026 for candidates across various postal circles in the country. The selection of Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS), Branch Postmasters (BPM), and Assistant Branch Postmasters (ABPM) is strictly conducted on a merit basis calculated from Class 10th marks. Candidates who could not secure a seat in the earlier merit lists can now verify their selection status in this 5th merit list.
Eligibility & Selection Criteria
The recruitment process for India Post Gramin Dak Sevak posts does not involve a written competitive examination. Candidates are evaluated based on the following parameters:
- Educational Qualification: Secondary School Examination (10th standard pass) certificate with passing marks in Mathematics and English conducted by any recognized Board of School Education.
- Local Language Proficiency: Compulsory study of the official local language of the selected postal circle up to 10th standard.
- Age Criteria: Candidates aged between 18 and 40 years as per the baseline notification, with permissible upper age relaxations for reserved categories.
- Selection Stage: Direct merit-based compilation followed by mandatory Document Verification (DV) at the allocated Divisional Head Office.

Shortlisted candidates or applicants wishing to check their status in the newly released selection list can follow these steps:
- Visit the official portal of India Post GDS at indiapostgdsonline.gov.in.
- Navigate to the candidate corner menu on the left side of the home page.
- Locate the section titled 'Shortlisted Candidates'.
- Select your respective Postal Circle (State) from the list.
- Click on the '5th Merit List / Supplementary List V' link to open the circle-wise PDF.
- Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F and enter your Registration Number or Name to check your selection status.
- Save and download the PDF for future reference during document verification.
Important Instructions & Advice
Provisionally selected candidates featured in the 5th Merit List must report to their respective allocated Divisional Head Offices along with all original documents and two sets of self-attested photocopies before the stipulated deadline. Essential certificates include 10th Marksheet & Passing Certificate, Caste/Community Certificate, Identity Proof (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card), PwD Certificate (if applicable), and Medical Fitness Certificate issued by a competent government authority. Failure to attend document verification within the prescribed timeline will lead to the cancellation of the candidature.
